Man with 'World's Largest Feet' in Miami to promote foot health
By Laura C. Delgado

Dr. Scholl’s Footcare Company and Guinness record holder Matthew McGrory paired up at Publix on Friday, July 30, to show off the ‘world’s largest feet’ and to educate South Florida residents about foot health.

Standing seven feet, six inches tall and wearing a size 29 1/2 shoe, McGrory is the Guinness record holder for the World’s Largest Feet. The Publix supermarket at 8341 Flagler St. hosted McGrory and his famous feet at its in-house footcare center that features a display of three walls containing over 2,000 Dr. Scholl’s products. The center also happens to be the ‘world’s largest foot care center’ of its kind.

South Florida residents were given the opportunity to chat with McGrory and have their picture taken with him. Participating visitors also were entered into the Dr. Scholl’s Largest Footcare Center Sweepstakes in which they guessed the length, in inches, of McGrory’s feet for a chance to win $1,000 and a year’s supply of Dr. Scholl’s products.

The 26-year-old record holder was born in Philadelphia on May 17, 1973. He weighed an amazing 15 pounds and was a remarkable 24 inches long.

Although born into an average-height family, McGrory continued to grow at an incredible rate from birth, surpassing his family and peers in height and weight. By the time he graduated kindergarten, he was over five feet tall and weighed almost 160 pounds.

"I remember being on the football team in the fifth grade," said McGrory, who played the nose tackle position. "The parents of the other children on the team were afraid for their kids because I was so big."

At the age of 19, after having reached his current height and weight of 330 pounds, McGrory realized that his feet were larger than the current (1992) Guinness Book of World Records holder for the largest feet in the world. McGrory was awarded the honor after contacting the Guinness Book to tell his amazing story.

In the fall 1998, McGrory decided to move from Philadelphia to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting.

Gifted with a booming voice, a quick wit and an awe-inspiring physical presence, McGrory has appeared on the Drew Carey Show and several music videos including Marilyn Manson Coma White video. He currently is negotiating a contract with Filtered Entertainment to be in more music videos and is featured in The Dead Hate the Living, a film set to come out in November.

McGrory also has been the focus of many magazine and newspaper stories throughout the world and has been featured on programs such as the Howard Stern Show, Live with Regis and Kathy Lee and Extra, which called him "… a gentle giant with a heart of gold," and followed him into a fourth-grade classroom where he worked with the young students to teach them about diversity and acceptance.

"I try to teach the kids about breaking down barriers and stereotypes because it doesn’t matter what color, size or gender you are," said McGrory. "People are people."
